update from Lauren Hayes 9th jan 2013

So what started off as a little expedition to Ghana to experience the culture and donate a few bits and bobs where it was needed with my best friend Leanne, turned out to be two trips where two young women with the support of Northfield church, our families, friends, and work colleges ended up donating over £500 of educational materials to rural schools, giving out over £600 of toiletries, hundreds of pieces of clothes to children in orphanages, countless amounts of toys, raising money to build a well which provides a village with unlimited fresh running water has somewhat turned into something bigger than we could have ever imagined. The vision for Ghana was always to take a bigger team out with us so they could experience what we had and bring their own contribution to the trip, but what happened next was totally unexpected.
In November I spoke to the church regarding a trip to Ghana which myself, my husband (Andy) and Leanne were going on, and if there was anyone who wanted to join us they were very welcome to. The response we gradually received was massive and we are now a solid team of 12 with vast differences in experience, age, and reasons for going on the trip- which is just great!
Those who are in the team alongside myself, Andy and Leanne Dervin are Robbie and Cherith Hancock, Hazel knight, Kyra Higgins, Jay Little, Allan Dwan, Ali Thomas, Shaun McGuinness and Allan Henderson. We ask that you pray for each and everyone of us as prepare for this journey we are about to take as for some people this really is a leap of faith in what God has planned in their lives!
Whilst we are in Ghana we will be working alongside the (non profit) charity, Rescue Aid foundation who do fantastic humanitarian outreach across all rural areas of Ghana, our direct Link is with the director of Rescue Aid foundation- Selasi Ackom, who will be with us throughout every aspect off our trip. Our outreach will consist of visiting two orphanages, Hospitals, an orphanage for children with severe learning and physical disabilities, spending time with locals in the villages and tribes and teaching in schools. Our trip itinerary is jam packed as we all want to reach as many people as possible in order to donate items to all those who need it.
Although there is a team of 12 of us going out to Ghana it really is a collective effort in which it is essential we gain the support from you, whether you a regular member of Northfield church or this is the first time you have ever come across this website. We need donations of any kind whether you have a spare £3 or a bag of baby clothes/toys, if we can fit it in our suitcases we WILL take it!! We can't thank you enough for the support we have received already but we really do need to keep it coming! If you feel you can help us in anyway, please get in contact! We value everyone's support and prayers at this time, and we are excited to see what God has planned for our trip both as a group and individually!

laurens' trip to ghana 2012.
aN UPdate that was posted during the trip june 2011
Once again, Lauren, Leanne & RAF invaded the children's ward of the Hohoe District Hospital and moved from one baby-court to the other, showing love and compassion to the sick children and donating personally to them. The affection felt the...re was amazing. We then moved to the maternity ward of the same hospital to show love to the new born babies. Day old babies, week old babies and month old babies were all beneficiaries of our donations. Its was touching! and we still cant find any word to better explain. This program was made possible by a representative from the Ghana Health Service in Hohoe-V/R.
We hit water at 25feet and cased it. Photos attached for your viewing pleasure. we will be drilling another one for them starting tomorrow. This completed well will serve the entire rural school children and the new one will serve the commu...nity meanwhile, the community can still use this one. We will be treating the water in the well to become clean before we apply a pumping machine to it into the reservoir (aka tank). It takes days for the water to be treated and we will do our best to fast it up.
